Estero man sentenced to seven years for child porn

ESTERO, Fla. – A 28-year-old Estero man was sentenced to seven years in federal prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to child porn charges in 2019.

Kyle O’Brien was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release after the FBI, joined by other agencies, swarmed a unit at the Coastal Village Apartments in Estero to serve a search warrant in April 2019, according to court documents.

O’Brien was accused of sending, receiving, and viewing sexually explicit material involving a child younger than 12 on his iPhone7.

The investigation began in February 2019 when a woman who had met O’Brien through a dating app told the FBI he had sent her images of child sexual abuse and invited her to watch child pornography with him, according to court documents.

The alleged criminal activity took place for at least a three-month period while O’Brien was living at Coastal Village which is located near Florida Gulf Coast University, investigators said.

Investigators discovered his cell phone had been used to search for videos and pictures of sexual abuse of young children and found more than 100 hyperlinks to websites that hosted child porn.

Residents who remembered witnessing the raid said they’re disturbed by the allegations, especially because of the apartment’s close proximity to Three Oaks Elementary and Middle School.
