Mailbox obliterated in Lehigh Acres hit-and-run crash

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A Lehigh Acres man, who lives on 59th Street West near Susan Ave North, said he had his mailbox smashed by a white van.

Welter Almeida said it was around 6 p.m Friday night, when he heard a loud bang come from outside his house.

“At first I was thinking, it has to be an ATV because their are a lot of ATV’s around here and sometimes they drive pretty fast and sometimes they can be irresponsible,” said Almeida.

However, it was no ATV. Instead, a mysterious white van was to blame for smashing into the mailbox and then taking off.

“They were going so fast! I’m not sure where they were going because past my driveway is a dead end? So I’m not sure how distracted they might have been,” explained Almeida.

The mailbox will be easily replaced by the Lehigh Acres man but it was the act of leaving the scene that has Almeida frustrated.

“I wish you would have at least had the integrity to say “hey man, I’m sorry,” said Almeida.
