WATCH: Hundreds of cownose rays migrate near Captiva beach
CAPTIVA, Fla. – Around this time every year, cownose rays migrate between the Gulf of Mexico and the Yucatan by the hundreds or thousands in groups known as ‘fevers.’ YOLO Watersports caught the natural phenomenon on camera on Wednesday afternoon near the Mucky Duck on Captiva. WATCH:
The video captures hundreds of cownose rays as they gracefully glide by the shore. Cownose rays can have a wingspan of up to 3 feet and usually present little danger to humans apart from their defensive venomous barb, according to FWC.
