INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The milk is on ice, celebrities are in the house and Indianapolis Motor Speedway is buzzing again both with the roar of engines and the largest crowd at a sporting event since the start of the pandemic. The Indianapolis 500 will welcome a sold-out 135,000 spectators on Sunday — nine months after the race ran without fans for the first time in its 105-year history — and drop the green flag on a packed house and a party not seen since early 2020. “We’re just excited to be opening up America,” said Roger Penske, who bought Indianapolis in January 2020, roughly two months before...

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Every down, every snap, and every touchdown scored Friday night at Dunbar High School was done so in the name of Zach Martin Polsenburg. July will mark the fourth anniversary of the death of the football player after suffering from heat illness during a practice at Riverdale High School.  Friday’s game between Dunbar and Estero was for Zach.  “I was convinced that this is something that we could do and accomplish,” said his mother Laurie Giordano.  Tonight’s game comes as a results of a settlement reached between Zach’s...

Everblades Sign Naples Native for Playoff Run

FORT MYERS, Fla.–Being inside Hertz Arena for an Everblades game is nothing new for Zach Solow. “I came to the games my whole life. Season ticket holder section 111,” Solow said. “We would come here and we would play mini hockey in the concourse during the intermissions.” Now he is going to have to trade those mini sticks in the concourse for the real action on the ice, something that will take some getting used to.  “It’s going to sink in once that puck drops on Friday night and I’m going to soak up every second of it,” Solow said. Solow signed this week with the team after...

Sunshine State showdown: Lightning take on Panthers in first round of playoffs

SUNSHINE, Fla. / AP — The defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Florida Panthers for the first time in the postseason on Sunday night. Florida was second in the Central Division, Tampa Bay was third. The Panthers went 5-2-1 against the Lightning in the regular season, though that seems irrelevant given that Tampa Bay’s lineup will be considerably different in this series. The Lightning are adding Nikita forward Nikita Kucherov — whose last game was Sept. 28, which just happened to be the night Tampa Bay hoisted the Stanley Cup. He missed the entire regular...
