For Keri Jewett-Giles 2020 was supposed to be a dream season. It was supposed to include a deep run with FGCU in front of WNBA scouts leading to her being drafted but as we now know she was never given that chance. “I feel like I got robbed my last college season,” Jewett-Giles said. FORT MYERS, Fla.– Wings up and masks off.  “It’s certainly exciting to be able to get things back to a normal sense and feeling,” said Florida Gulf Coast University Assistant Athletic Director John Sinnett.  FGCU announced earlier this week, even before the CDC, that it would be changing its guidelines so that facemasks on campus were optional but recommended. The policy includes athletic venues.   “If they choose to wear a mask that would be their personal decision, but they will not be required,” said Sinnett.  The on campus...

Gateway football laying building blocks for future success

LEE COUNTY, Fla.– Building a high school football team from the ground up is no easy task. “When we took over this program I think we had three kids that had ever played a snap of football before,” said Cullen O’Brien, the first head coach in the history of Lee County’s newest school, Gateway High School.  As daunting as it seems, O’Brien and his Eagles have embraced the challenge. “It’s awesome to just put your stamp on something and just be a part of building a program from the ground up,” said O’Brien.  For now,...

(NBC) Medina Spirit has been cleared to race in the Preakness Saturday despite testing positive for a steroid after winning the Kentucky Derby. Shortly after the announcement, officials at Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is held, said Baffert would be suspended indefinitely from the track. FORT MYERS, Fla. — For the first time in six years, the FGCU golf team will have a representative at an NCAA tournament. The hot streak started at the Old Corkscrew Golf Course and the Eagle’s one and only home tournament this season. The momentum carried over to the ASUN Championship Georgia. Most golf shots are close to impossible to predict, but for FGCU senior Van Holmgren — his match sealing putt was seen a mile away. “I was standing by my assistant coach at the time. I looked at Austin and I said ‘he’s going to make this’ and Austin said ‘of course,” FGCU head...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Owner of Kentucky Derby winner ‘Medina Spirit’ is fighting back after being told the horse failed a drug test.
