CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A driver’s car containing several full gas cans inside was destroyed after it caught fire on Wednesday in Citrus County. Citrus County Fire Rescue received the call about the car fire at 10:52 a.m. in Homosassa. The driver of the 2004 Hummer H2 had just filled up four, five-gallon containers of gas at the gas station and placed them in the back of the car before it burst into flames. HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A 63-year-old disabled woman made it out alive after her home erupted in flames when her oxygen hose caught fire as she was smoking in bed, officials said. McDonald’s is raising wages at company-owned restaurants
McDonald’s is the latest restaurant to say it’s raising wages in a bid to attract workers. The company is increasing hourly employees’ pay by about 10 percent, it announced Thursday — but the change applies only to a small percentage of staff. Entry-level employees will earn at least $11 to $17 an hour, the company said in a statement. Shift managers will earn at least $15 to $20 an hour, CNN reports. PUNTA DE BURICA, Panama — A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck about 90 miles off the coast of Punta de Burica, Chiriquí, Panama on Thursday morning, officials said. Information from the United States Geological Survey shows that the earthquake’s epicenter is in an area where the Caribbean and North American plates meet. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. [WPTV] – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Thursday morning making alcohol to-go a permanent fixture in Florida. The governor originally signed an executive order during the pandemic allowing alcoholic to-go beverages to help businesses during the 2020 safer at home order. The bill set parameters — the sale of to-go drinks must be cut off either at midnight or when food service ends for the day. Chiquita Lock reopens after temporarily closing Thursday for repairs
CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Chiquita Lock in Cape Coral closed for repairs on Thursday morning, but has since reopened. Repair crews with the City of Cape Coral were fixing the Chiquita Lock on May 13. The lock reopened around 10:30 a.m. It’s not known why the repairs were needed.
