Gov. DeSantis signs bill making alcohol to-go drinks permanent in Florida

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. [WPTV] – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Thursday morning making alcohol to-go a permanent fixture in Florida.

The governor originally signed an executive order during the pandemic allowing alcoholic to-go beverages to help businesses during the 2020 safer at home order.

The bill set parameters — the sale of to-go drinks must be cut off either at midnight or when food service ends for the day. Drinks will also not be able to exceed 32 ounces and need to be placed in secured containers by the business.

Alcoholic drink that are delivered must be placed in locked compartments, vehicle trunks or in areas behind the last upright seats in vehicles, according to WPTV.

Customers will also be allowed to bring opened bottles of wine home with them or a fill closed bottle of wine.

The bill will go into effect on July 1.
