Local teens begin getting Pfizer vaccine after FDA authorization

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Teenagers began getting the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday after the recent FDA authorization that allows people aged 12-15 to get the Pfizer vaccine.

Many said they were excited to be protected and said it would make them feel safer going to school and hanging out with friends. 
Over the last two months, the medical experts said there has been an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations among 12 to 17 year olds.

“I just wanted to get my COVID vaccine the moment I could, so I was excited when they released it for my age group,” said Daniel Cho, a 14-year-old who just got vaccinated.

Walk-in and scheduled vaccine appointments for 12 to 15-year-olds are available now at Walgreens and CVS locations across Southwest Florida. Lee Health is also offering the Pfizer vaccine to teenagers. Anyone under the age of 18 must be with a parent or legal guardian to get their shot.

“It’s very exciting to be part of this huge effort to bring America back to work and businesses back to work, so we are very excited to be able to be part of this,” said Eddy Aoun, a district manager with CVS. “We are very proud and happy to be part of the solution.”
