Officials remind drivers to use safe containers when buying gas
FORT MYERS, Fla.– If you are buying gas, you should only use containers that are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency or other federal regulatory agency.
If you try to improvise by creating your own container like a bucket, a plastic bottle or a milk jug, it’s not only dangerous but it can also get you in trouble with law enforcement.
If you are transporting fuel, even if you don’t want to sell it, you can be charged with unlawful conveyance of fuel.
There are also other hazards to look out for when you’re filling up gas.
If someone fills up a gas container in the back of a pickup truck with plastic bed liners or in a car with carpeted surfaces a fire can easily ignite.
