Driver slams into fire hydrant, causing flooding & delays on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — A car that slammed into a fire hydrant caused a major water leak on Fort Myers Beach on Memorial Day, officials said. The flooding stopped both directions of traffic near the Big Carlos Pass on Estero Boulevard for over half an hour. Some people were seen getting out of their cars while waiting on the bridge. Student driver critically injures father during driving lesson

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A 65-year-old Naples man is in critical condition after an accident while teaching his son how to drive, officials said. The man was teaching his 34-year-old son from Colombia how to drive, specifically how to park, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said. While being guided into a parking space by his father, who was outside of the vehicle, the son stepped on the gas. The SUV launched over the parking curbs and hit the man, troopers said. Citizens help remove people from flipped car on SR 82 in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. – One person was taken to the hospital after a rollover crash on SR 82 and Buckingham Road in Fort Myers on Saturday. The Fort Myers Police Department said traffic was down to one lane on SR-82 north. Officers said no one was seriously injured, but one was taken to the hospital. At least three cars were involved in the crash. Citizens stopped to help lift the car that flipped on SR 82 to help everyone get out of the car, according to Fort Myers police. Car crashes & flips next to Fort Myers home

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car that crashed into the front of a home on New York Avenue in Fort Myers late Thursday night. Multiple LCSO cruisers were seen at the location where a white sedan flipped and hit a home and at least one other vehicle. NBC2 crews saw a damaged LCSO K9 cruiser at the scene. It’s not known if the damage was caused in the crash. Tow truck drivers arrived to the scene just before 2 a.m. to remove the flipped sedan. Additional information about the crash is not known....

Mailbox obliterated in Lehigh Acres hit-and-run crash

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A Lehigh Acres man, who lives on 59th Street West near Susan Ave North, said he had his mailbox smashed by a white van. Welter Almeida said it was around 6 p.m Friday night, when he heard a loud bang come from outside his house. “At first I was thinking, it has to be an ATV because their are a lot of ATV’s around here and sometimes they drive pretty fast and sometimes they can be irresponsible,” said Almeida.
