DeSoto County home to new FPL solar energy center

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — When it comes to renewable energy, DeSoto County is the solar power host with the most. Florida Power & Light Company recently finished construction of the new Rodeo Solar Energy Center. The completion of the project makes DeSoto County home to more FPL solar energy centers than any other county in the state. The new energy center adds nearly 300,000 solar panels to the Sunshine State’s power harnessing grid. Gov. DeSantis appoints two DeSoto County commissioners

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. – Gov. DeSantis appointed two DeSoto County commissioners, his office announced on Monday. Ashley Coone and Jerod Gross will both be joining the board, officials said. Coone is President of Ashley Coone Consulting. Previously, she was executive director of the DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce and co-founded Links2Success, a nonprofit that provides free college and career readiness programs to students in the county. Man dead in fiery DeSoto County crash

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. – A man died just before 1 a.m. Sunday after a DeSoto County crash that caused the pickup truck he was driving to go up in flames, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said a man driving south on NW Eucalyptus Avenue near NW Sycamore Street when he ran off the road and hit a tree. The pickup truck then caught fire and became engulfed in flames on the shoulder of Eucalyptus Avenue, investigators said. The man was pronounced dead on scene.
