Body of missing Florida 13-year-old found

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. [FIRST COAST NEWS]- A St. Johns County 13-year-old girl was last seen early Sunday morning in her Durbin Crossing neighborhood, prompting a 16-hour search.

The search ended when searchers found a body, which the St. Johns County sheriff believes to be the missing teenager Tristyn Bailey.

Bailey was last seen at 1:15 a.m. near the Durbin Amenity Center. She was reported missing to authorities around 10 a.m. and after some time had passed, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement joined search efforts and issued a Florida Missing Child Alert for Bailey Sunday afternoon, First Coast News reported.

Deputies, neighbors and teammates helped search for her all day before the sheriff called off the search around 6 p.m.

“This is a grieving community and we’re going to respect that grieving community. I ask that you put this out there and help us stand by this community and let them grieve together,” the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation is still active.

The sheriff’s office has not provided anymore details surrounding Bailey’s death, but they are expected to give an update on Monday morning.
