Hurricane Preparedness Week: 2 topics a day
It’s National Hurricane Preparedness Week and your NBC2 First Alert Meteorologists want you to be prepared.
Every day we will feature two topics that will help you get ready for the upcoming hurricane season.
Grab a pen and paper and write down your important contacts. That includes names and numbers of family members, doctors, and veterinarians.
You can use this physical contact list as a backup to your cell phone and computer.
It’s a good idea to make paper copies of the contact list and other important documents like medical records, birth certificates and passports.
Put these papers in a safe location so you know where they are and aren’t searching at the last minute when you need to be evacuating.
If this is not your first Florida hurricane season, you need to start working on this now.
Those who were here for Irma or Charley should understand how important evacuation plans are. Double check to make sure it is updated.
Familiarize yourself with your evacuation route and watch NBC2 to know when it is time to go. There could be voluntary and mandatory evacuations this hurricane season.
If a mandatory evacuation is ordered, that means it is safest for you to leave your home.
If you leave too late, roads could be closed or you could get stuck in traffic. Those who leave early will have an easier time finding hotels and gas.NBC2 Fort Myers
