From Fort Myers to Virginia, man’s sunset pics bring cancer patient comfort

FORT MYERS, Fla.– Lynn Johnston got the news shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began – she had cancer. For much of the past year she has gone to doctors appointments and chemotherapy treatments.

Waiting for her after some of the toughest days were text messages from her brother-in-law, John, who lives in Fort Myers. Each message had a picture of a sunset and an uplifting message.

“Another day of battling,” John wrote in one text. “You’re going to do it.”

Those messages, accompanied by a majestic Southwest Florida sunset, began to have an impact on Lynn.

“It’s just a reminder that even though one day is done, it doesn’t mean there aren’t anymore to come,” Lynn said. “There are little miracles everyday and [sunsets] happens to be one of them. And my brother-in-law pointed that out to me.”

As long as the pictures make a difference, John will continue to send them.

“She’s just a wonderful person,” John said. “[We’re going to beat cancer] one sunset at time”.
