Punta Gorda motorcyclist dies weeks after Arcadia crash

ARCADIA, Fla. – A 64-year-old Punta Gorda man died Friday nearly one month after he was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Arcadia.

Around 11:30 a.m. on April 12, a pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old Arcadia woman was pulling a utility trailer on County Road 760 near SW Nipper Avenue when the trailer detached from the truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 64 -year-old was driving a motorcycle along the road and crashed into the detached trailer after it separated from the truck and went right into the path of the motorcyclist, troopers said.

The Punta Gorda man was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition before passing away from his injuries on May 7. Troopers said the man was not wearing a helmet.

The Arcadia woman was uninjured in the crash.
