“Darling” manatee released after recovering from red tide-related illness

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office helped return a 1,100-pound manatee back to the wild on Wednesday. The manatee, nicknamed “Darling,” was rescued by LCSO deputies on February 13 after it got stuck in some mangroves and needed treatment for red tide-related health issues. Darling was transferred to Zoo Tampa for treatment and rehabilitation. On May 12, Darling was deemed healthy enough to head back to the wild. Eastern diamondback rattlesnake gets health check-up at Naples Zoo

NAPLES, Fla. — Vet techs and reptile keepers worked together to complete a successful check-up for a venomous resident of the Naples Zoo. Glass Animal Hospital staff used a long, clear tube to put the Eastern diamondback snake under anesthesia. The veterinary team took radiographs of the snake’s body, drew blood, and collected samples for viral testing to figure out the condition of the snake. Investigators rule Charlotte County house fire was arson

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.– Investigators determined a fire at a home under construction off Egret Place in Charlotte County was set intentionally. The fire happened at the end of February. The smoke damage was limited to the garage area. At the end of April on the same construction site, a truck was caught on surveillance video backing into a port-o-potty multiple times until it tipped over. COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.– For the past several months, concrete has piled up on the corner lot of Santa Barbara and Davis Boulevard. Recently, a fence was added to keep the rubble out of sight.
